My name is Lucía Benavides and I’m an Argentine-American writer and journalist.

I was born in Argentina and raised in Texas from a young age and am bilingual in English and Spanish. From 2017 to 2021, I served as the Spain correspondent for National Public Radio (NPR) and from 2021 to 2022, I was the Southern European correspondent for the public radio program The World. My reporting has appeared in a number of U.S. and UK publications, including The Atlantic, Teen Vogue and New Internationalist.

I also write creative non-fiction and fiction. My personal essays have been published in Literary Hub, LA Review of Books and The Washington Post. Two of my short stories were named “honorable mention” by Texas Observer’s Short Story Contests of 2015 and 2018. I’m currently working on my first novel.
